A
visit to Sidi Bou Said and a mint tea at Café des Nattes
or Café Sidi Chabanne, with its amazing view over the
marina and the coastline.
A
visit of the Antonin Baths, the best preserved Carthage site.
A
trip into downtown Tunis to visit the Bardo museum or to explore
the souks in the ancient medina.
For those who prefer
to stay downtown, Tunis offers a variety of hotels within easy
distance of the central attractions.
The medina is the ideal place
to get a feel for the Tunisian way of life. The souks are real
living places and craftsmen can be found practicing their trade
on the streets, where each street represents a different craft.
A visit to the Bardo Museum,
which is home to the world’s finest collection of mosaics
is essential for those who wish to learn a little more about the
heritage of the country.
Tunis is close to the historical sites of Carthage and the pretty
blue and white artists village of Sidi Bou Said which can be reached
by a short taxi ride, or on the TGM (light railway network).
If you fancy some fine dining try Dar El Djeld or Dar Bel Hadj
in the medina - these restaurants are located in former palatial
homes.
Tunis is the ideal place for a city break offering numerous activities
from cultural tours and shopping in the medina to a round of golf
and relaxing on the beaches in Gammarth – all this in a
city that is only 21/2
hours flying time from London.
Located approximately 15 minutes
north of the international airport and 25 minutes from central
Tunis, it is the perfect location for those who are looking
to combine beach and culture.
Gammarth offers easy access
to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said, as well as downtown Tunis, for
those who wish to explore the surrounding area.
There are some excellent restaurants in the area. Try Le Grand
Bleu or Les Dunes in Gammarth or Au Bon Vieux Temps in Sidi
Bou Said.
There is a good light railway service between downtown Tunis
and the suburbs of Carthage and Sidi Bou Said. Alternatively
taxis are cheap and readily available.
